Tinker Goes Skating
So, 3 months ago I talked about this book
Tinker Goes Skating that I bought from eBay. It finally arrived yesterday.
The pictures were familiar but I did not remember the storyline except that Tinker actually goes to skate, so the story was new to me.
It's quite a whimsical story. The ending is strange though. The last sentence in the book was "Exercise is so good for you!"
Going to read it over again. It sure brings back my childhood memories of me in my room with my pink alarm clock and going to kindergarten.
Evelyn Pauses
I shall be wary about posting up thoughts that occur in my mind at 4 am in the morning. Clearly it's too hot to handle for some people.
I just came back from work. It's tiring. If anybody asks for more Durian, Rocher or Toblerone gelati I'm going to cry. Why are the most popular flavours the firmest?
Going to sleep.
Evelyn Goes To Yam Cha
Went to eat dim sum last Sunday. One of my friends treated us because he did well for his exams (hope you continue to do well, Victor! Hehe..) We went to King Bo, which is at the corner of Little Bourke and Russell St in Chinatown.
This was the first time I went there, usually preferring to go to Sharks Fin's House. However, wherever I go I order the same stuff. Makes no difference.
Cheong Fan - Thin rice sheets filled with barbecued pork. Yummy... for those who are wondering why I didn't order the prawn ones - I don't eat seafood.
Sesame Balls - Filled with red bean paste. My dad loves this too so that's probably how I come to order it everytime I go.
Egg Tart - Self explanatory. I wonder how they make the pastry?
Mango Puree with Sago - I prefer the honeydew version but the mango one isn't too bad. I'm not a big mango fan.
Water Chesnut Jelly - At least I think that's what it is. Definitely has waterchestnut. This was the first time I've actually tried it. Quite nice - sweet.
In case you guys were wondering how come I don't eat the other
essentials in dim sum, I do. It's just that these are the more important dishes to me.
Off for a nap now. Hope it doesn't screw up my entire sleep schedule again.
R & R
I woke up at the bright and early hour of 1 pm in the afternoon and stayed in bed MSN-ing half heartedly until I ate lunch. Went out for a while, came back home, ate
again and went. back. to. sleep.
So here I am at 8.40pm with an extremely messed up sleep schedule. Won't be surprised if I only fall asleep at 5am or later tonight. Argh!
I have come up with the conclusion that people who go to Freddo's and order
chocolate gelati when there's like 18 other amazing flavours are people who want to play it safe and do not embrace change. More flavour and personality analysis to come when I make up other hypotheses.
Going to do something with myself to prevent myself from accidentally falling asleep
again.
Evelyn Bakes A Birthday Cake 3
Spent the whole Friday night baking for my housemate's 21st birthday.
It's strange how what I used to embrace with such joy has become almost a chore to me - mainly because the novelty has worn out. Nonetheless, my housemate deserved a cake and therefore I baked it.
Here it is. It's a chocolate cake covered with chocolate ganache, with chocolate pieces at the sides and topped with truffles.
I decided to be more adventurous with the truffles and flavoured them this time - mocha, cointreau and just plain chocolate.
Still have not eaten it yet because there was some misunderstanding and my housemate received not one but
two birthday cakes. Lucky girl.
Going to bed to nurse my sore palm due to scooping gelati.
Evelyn Is Working
Due to the fact that I am not going anywhere this winter holidays, I decided to go look for a job and promptly headed to Il Dolce Freddo, one of the best gelati stores in Melbourne. The owner interviewed me and today I went for my official training. Guess I'm gonna be scooping gelati for the rest of the semester.
I like the job. I get to talk to the customers, cultivate strong arm muscles (my palm hurts from the scooping already) and earn money as well. No complaints.
Pictures to follow when I can be bothered.
