Dentistry At Its Worst
So, I realise that I'm quite a lousy student by now. But today, I showed my finest act of idioticism of all.Demonstrator: So. We'll be drilling and filling the second premolar on the left side (tooth number = 25)
Me: Okay.
Demonstrator: Okay, numb it up with the oral gel and call me when you're done.
Me: Okay.
*5 minutes later*
Demonstrator: All done?
Me: Yeah.
Demostrator: That's the second premolar on the right side (tooth number = 15).
Me: ........Shitttttt!!!!!!!!!!!! *In head*
It went all downhill from there - basically because my confidence in myself was shattered and so was the patient's confidence in me. Not only that, I made many various other stupid mistakes as well which I won't bother to go into. But suffice it to say that I have absolutely no idea why I'm in dentistry right now. No idea at all. And thank all the stars in heaven I didn't actually start drillling that tooth!!!!!! Also, my demonstrator thinks I'm an absolute idiot by now.
4 slices of bread & kaya - 800 calories
1 plate instant pasta - 400 calories
1/4 chocolate bunny - 200 calories
3/4 taro milk tea with bubbles - 275 calories
1/8th char kuay teow - 100 calories
Total - 1775 calories (could have been much worse considering the day I had)

Well, we all make mistakes once in awhile, for we are only human. You're not a machine, and should not expect yourself to act like you.
And I agree with what Jolene said to an extent, but I believe it should be about passion, and not just stability.
Just my 2 cents. Hehehehe.

hey another dental student (i graduated 3 years ago next week)! i just saw your comment dentist down under's site, i'm so excited to see more dental people posting!
good luck in school! lemme know if you need any advice (and vice versa, i'm always learning!) you can visit my site at www.doctormommydentist.blogspot.com
btw, don't feel bad about the 25 thing - i drilled the wrong tooth the very first time i every did a restoration. fortunately, it was only removing an exisiting amalgam and it wasn't a virgin tooth. to this day i still check and double check every time.

Don't worry about it, I almost exo the wrong tooth when I first started working. Thank goodness my DA kicked me under the chair. I was like why the hell did you kick me, then I realised I had the luxator next to the 36 instead of the 37. :/
