Comedy Festival

Every year my local friends invite me to go to Comedy Festival Melbourne to enjoy the pleasure of sitting through a stand up comedy. This year was no different - we went to a stand up comedy by some British comedian. Forgot his name now. Amazingly short short term memory.

Anyway, I thought it was quite nice, although the previous ones I went to was more enjoyable. He gave me a few insights though. One of the ones that struck was his definition of happiness. According to him, to be perfectly happy, you have to be in a situation that is happy... and be in the position to see that the next thing coming up was one that would inspire bliss as well. In other words, if you're happy now but you can see that the future is bleak... you can't be perfectly happy. Perpetual happiness is the key to bliss. And I think that there is some truth in that statement.

Another thing he said that was striking was the his view of Friendster. You type out your favourite movies, music etc so that if someone had the same interest, they can click and view your profiles and think that because they like the same things you like, you'll be great friends and are therefore compatible. However, the truth is it doesn't matter if you have the same interests. The important thing is that you like/hate the same things for the same reason to have a connection. Just because I like dogs for companionship doesn't mean that someone who likes dogs for their fur (like Cruella De Vile) is going to click with me.

Oh. Just remembered his name. Daniel Kitson.
