Childhood Memory 1

I've been thinking about my life when I was back in Malaysia, young, innocent and naive. When the biggest worry in my life was whether I made a mistake in the Maths paper that would prevent me from getting 100%. Things were so easy and straightforward then.

I would come home from school, eat a couple of spoonfuls of rice and dishes, take a bath and get ready for the best part of my day - lying in bed eating oranges and reading about brownies having their adventures in fairyland or the like.

I'd take 2 oranges out from the fridge, peel them by hand, bring it upstairs and choose a storybook to read. I'd eat the oranges systematically, segment by segment, savouring the experience. In my younger years I acquired the ability to hold books and flip the pages using my toes so that I wouldn't stain the books with orange juice. Inevitably it would still happen once in a while. Up to now I can still see orange stains on some of my favourite volumes.

An orange a day keeps the doctor away.
